Introduction
============

This is my third version of a RD-5R codeplug. I am not very experienced writing
codeplugs and so it is very hard to find the best strategy to organize it.
This codeplug needs the promiscuous mode activated with "Monitor" in digital mode,
to be able to receive talkgroups that are not the most common for DMRplus and BrandMeister.

The source for the repeater data was:

It took me several weeks to go through the data, merge it, (cross)check it an
hack all the stuff into the CPS and go through every channel and configure it.
And you can be almost sure, that the DMR landscape changed while you're uploading
the codeplug to your radio :-)

Feel free to use my codeplug and change it for your needs. I would appreciate to get
feedback or maybe improved versions of the codeplug, because it seems that there
are only a few codeplugs out there for the RD-5R.

Don't forget to change the "Radio ID" to your personal DMR ID.

Codeplug_RD-5R_by_DL9SEC_3v2.dat

"Codeplug_RD-5R_by_DL9SEC_3v2.dat" is a codeplug for the BAOFENG RD-5R (FW 2.1.6/CPS 1.0.0.4)
covering Germany from north to south, from east to west.
The codeplug contains BrandMeister and DMRplus repeaters known in June 2020, as well as
VHF/UHF repeater channels, PMR channels (RX only), home repeater and FM/DMR call frequencies.

The VHF repeater channels are named <channel number>:<RX freq - 140MHz>. TX offset is -0,6 MHz.
The UHF repeater channels are named <channel number>:<RX freq - 430MHz>. TX offset is -7,6 MHz.

The RD-5R is limited at its contact IDs (256), RX groups (64x15, website says 16, but that's not
true), Zones (250x16), channels (1024) and scan lists (250x32, but only 31 usable). To find a way
that results in the best between flexibility/extensibility and comfort, the DMR repeater channels
and one private hotspot channel exists in two flavours.
The two networks DMRplus and BrandMeister with their different focus doesn't make it easier.

For BrandMeister repeaters (focus on talkgroups):

1. Channel for timeslot 1 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS1
   Naming convention:
   <call>-BM<timeslot> for UHF and <call>-VBM<timeslot> for VHF
   <call>-<repeater number>BM<timeslot> for repeaters with more than one channel
   <call>-BM<timeslot>S for UHF simplex repeaters and <call>-VBM<timeslot>S for VHF simplex repeaters
   
2. Channel for timeslot 2 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS2
   Naming convention:
   <call>-BM<timeslot> for UHF and <call>-VBM<timeslot> for VHF
   <call>-<repeater number>BM<timeslot> for repeaters with more than one channel
   <call>-BM<timeslot>S for UHF simplex repeaters and <call>-VBM<timeslot>S for VHF simplex repeaters
   

For DMRplus repeaters (focus on reflectors):

1. Channel for timeslot 1 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS1
   Naming convention:
   <call>-D+<timeslot> for UHF and <call>-VD+<timeslot> for VHF
   <call>-<repeater number>D+<timeslot> for repeaters with more than one channel
   <call>-D+<timeslot>S for UHF simplex repeaters and <call>-VD+<timeslot>S for VHF simplex repeaters
   
2. Channel for timeslot 2 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS2 (here TG9 only)
   Naming convention:
   <call>-D+<timeslot> for UHF and <call>-VD+<timeslot> for VHF
   <call>-<repeater number>D+<timeslot> for repeaters with more than one channel
   <call>-D+<timeslot>S for UHF simplex repeaters and <call>-VD+<timeslot>S for VHF simplex repeaters


Because of the zone limitations of the RD-5R (each zone can have 16 members), several zones are
divided into part 1 and part 2 or north part and south part after regions or administrative districts.
In the scan list such divided parts are merged together again (e.g. zones "DMR NI-H1" and
"DMR NI-H1" -> "DMR NI-H"), because a scan list can hold up to 31 members.

Additionally there are two channels prepared for a local BrandMeister hotspot:

1. Channel for timeslot 2 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS1
   Naming convention:
   HOTSPOT-1BM2S for UHF simplex
   
2. Channel for timeslot 2 and RX group with the common talkgroups for TS2
   Naming convention:
   HOTSPOT-2BM2S for UHF simplex

To be honest, i wasn't sure, how to cope with all the simplex repeaters. There are only a few or no
information about handling of talkgroups (found some good documentation for DB0TST VHF simplex).
I simplified this using the same scheme as for the duplex repeaters. So it could be, that most of
the simplex repeater channels won't work as expected.
   

Codeplug_RD-5R_by_DL9SEC_3v2_PlanningSheets.xlsm

"Codeplug_RD-5R_by_DL9SEC_3v2_PlanningSheets.xlsm" is some kind of playground i used to plan
the arrangement and organization of channels, contacts, RX groups and so on before hacking it
into the CPS.

The Excel file contains the calculated/numbered analog channels, sheets with the regions and their
repeaters, the DMRplus, BrandMeister and Hotspot RX groups, the zones and scan list naming.

Additionally there is a sheet with all contacts and all channels.
These lists can be edited and easily exported with the macro "ExportCSV" to be imported with
the CPS (the standard CVS export in excel is a pain in the ass).
